The Fourth Annual Online Photo Contest
sponsored by Todd & Brad Reed Photography


For every $15, you are allowed to enter three separate images. You can enter as many images as you would like in quantities of three. All proceeds go to the Ludington Area Arts Council.  Our goal for this year is to have over 1200 photo submissions which equals $6000 in donations.  

The money raised from this year’s contest will go towards the purchase of additional professional gallery lighting for the main gallery at the Ludington Center for the Arts.

When is the Contest?
January 16, 2012 at 12:01 am to February 26, 2012 at 11:59 pm.
There will be no extension of the deadline this year.

Who is Eligible to Enter?
The Ludington Area Center for the Arts Online Photo Contest is open to photographers of any age from anywhere in the world.

Entries may have been previously publishes or entered into other photo contests however we will not accept entires that have been entered into this contest before. There are no rules regarding image manipulation however the images must be your own work.

Photos must be in digital format, submitted online.

How does Judging work?
Images will be judged in five categories, contest participants choose the category that best fits their image. Images must be in JPEG (or JPG) file format, no larger than 10MB.
  1. People (sports, portraits and family photos)
  2. Landscape - Large Scene (ex: sunset over mountains or water)
  3. Animals (domestic animals and wildlife including insects, birds, and fish)
  4. Plants (leaves, trees, flower, and garden scenes)
  5. Free Subject/Abstract (Example: extreme close-up so the person, animal or plant is no longer identifiable)
New this year: People's Choice
We have added the Facebook "Like" button for each photo in the gallery.  At the conclusion of the contest, the photo with the most Facebook "Likes" will also receive a prize.  Contest entry is not required to vote in the People's Choice contest but a Facebook account is required.

At the conclusion of the contest, entries will be judged by Todd and Brad Reed.  They will not see the entries prior to that time and will not know the names of the artists.  There will be a First, Second, and Third place winner for each category as well as an overall Grand Prize winner. Photographers are eligible to win/place in multiple categories however the Grand Prize winning photo will not win a category placing.  The Grand Prize will be awarded for the entry that exhibits superior artistry and technique.


What are the Prizes?
All Ludington Area Center for the Arts Photo Contest prizes will be gift certificates to Todd & Brad Reed Photography. All third place winners will receive a $30 gift certificate, second place winners will receive a $50 gift certificate, and first place winners will receive a $75 gift certificate. The people's choice winner with receive a $125 gift certificate and the grand prize winner will receive a $200 gift certificate. In addition, Todd & Brad Reed Photography will print, matte, and frame a 14 inch print of the grand prize winning photo which will be on display at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts for a year. 

How do I Submit Images?

We only accept images through online submission. Please follow the steps below to upload images.

1. Use the drop down box below to add the entry/donation to the online shopping cart. The fee is $15 for every three entries, but there is no limit on how many images you submit.  Your three entries do not need to be for the same category.

2. Click View Cart

3. If the information in the shopping cart is correct, click the Check Out button.

4. Enter the First Name, Last Name, and Email of the purchaser - this can be different from the individual submitting photos. Click the Submit button.

5. The web browser will be redirected to the LACA PayPal page.  A PayPal account is not required.  If paying by credit card, click the "Don't have a PayPal account?" link.

6. Fill out all the information required by PayPal. Again, this information is for the purchaser.

7. When the transaction is complete, the web browser will be redirected back to the LACA website where a link is provided to register as a photographer in the contest.  

8. Register as a new user, creating a username and password.  Click the Submit button.

9. Enter the details of the photo entries. Note that image files need to be in .jpg format, no larger than 10MB. File names should be logical, preferably in a format similar to the following:

First Name-Last Name_Category_Image-Name.jpg 

Example:  Sarah-Genson_Landscape_Dynamic-Light.jpg

The file names cannot contain spaces or punctuation except for the .jpg extension

10. Entries will be uploaded automatically into the 2012 Photo Contest album.
